“Mods are No Different than Cheating”

Well, this is quite the take from Capcom in an unexpected way.
But we have to remind ourselves that they are and always have been a business through and through. They have a few things to focus on like profits and reputation.

They say that mods are classed as cheating to them, mods that are unofficial anyway (important to note) because it makes their games susceptible to hosting offensive content that could harm their game or franchises reputation and can create new bugs and problems for games.
OK, I would understand that if you’re modding an online or multiplayer game but the majority of games that Capcom makes that are with the modding scene are mainly single player like Resident Evil or Devil May Cry. If you put a mod in that gives you unlimited health or unlimited ammo yes that is cheating even in a single player game. If you change their outfits, some game mechanics that need fixing or entirely upgrading then I would say that is improving the game, not cheating. Yet Capcom still says there is no difference between the two.

Now earlier when I said ‘official mods’ I mean the mods that they deem are alright to use. Why would they say some are ok and some are not if they’re classified as both cheating?
Of course, because they don’t make a profit on fan made mods.
Here are some of their official mods that they do not deem as cheating:

Resident Evil 4
– Treasure Map Expansion (Basically adds in more money)
– Exclusive Upgrade Tickets (Upgrade weapons instantly)

Resident Evil 2
– All in game Rewards unlocked instantly

Resident Evil 3
– All in game Rewards unlocked instantly

Resident Evil Village
– Extra Content Shop All Access Voucher

Devil May Cry 5
– Unlock Super Vergil instantly
– Unlocks Vergil EX provocation instantly
– 1 Blue Orb
– 3 Blue Orbs
– 5 Blue Orbs
– 10000 Red Orbs
– 20000 Red Orbs
– 30000 Red Orbs
– 50000 Red Orbs
– 100000 Red Orbs
– Super Character 3 Pack (Unlocks all super characters instantly)

So you’re telling me I can’t mod a game to give myself more money, more power or free upgrades but if I pay for them then it’s completely alright?
Yeah, this is why people can’t take companies like this seriously when you’re clearly saying one thing but doing another or just completely oblivious to the fact of what you’re doing.

It must also be pointed out that mods are a large part of a games longevity, especially when it comes to games like Resident Evil. Look at how many mods there are for these games that change it up, keep people coming back and wanting more. Modding is a great thing when it’s not used to gain an advantage over other people.

They bought your product so leave them to do what they wish with it and play how they want.
